MITR™-M1 Half Mask Achieves NIOSH Certification

MITR™-M1 Half Mask Achieves NIOSH Certification

We’re proud to announce that our MITR™-M1 Half Mask and MITR-PF Compact Particulate Filter have officially achieved NIOSH certification, with the NIOSH certified MITR-M1 Half Masks shipping out in early 2026.

This certification from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is more than a stamp of approval - it’s a third-party endorsement that the MITR-M1 Half Mask and MITR-PF Filter meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and user safety. For users across law enforcement, military, special forces, emergency response, and beyond, this means added assurance that their protection meets the strictest benchmarks.

Why NIOSH Certification Matters

NIOSH certification plays a critical role in respiratory protection across the U.S., as it is directly tied to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations. In many federal, state, and local agencies—as well as private sector roles—NIOSH-approved respirators are not just recommended, they’re required.

NIOSH evaluates:

  • Filtration efficiency – ensuring airborne threats are effectively blocked

  • Breathing resistance – confirming comfort and usability under stress

  • Environmental resilience – testing durability in heat, cold, humidity, and rough handling

With this certification, MITR-M1 and MITR-PF exceed the required thresholds for safety and performance. Whether used in tactical operations or critical response environments, users can trust that these systems are built to perform when it counts.

Purpose-Built for Tactical Professionals

As Steve Elwell, President of Avon Protection, put it:

“We designed the MITR half mask to give our users safe, convenient and low-burden respiratory protection that delivers when it matters most. Since its launch, it has already redefined protection options for this fast-evolving market.”

At Avon Protection, we are committed to developing respiratory solutions that meet the operational needs of modern users. Pursuing NIOSH certification was a strategic decision - to provide the confidence and compliance required by agencies where NIOSH approval is a contractual necessity.

“We are delighted that MITR has achieved this certification level, independently demonstrating to our user community that we are able to deliver the compliance, protection and operational readiness our users need, to know they will get home safely every time.”

The MITR System – Protection That Scales With the Mission

The MITR-M1 Half Mask is part of a wider modular platform. Paired with the newly launched MITR-PG1 Powered Goggle, users can scale protection depending on threat level - without compromising on mobility or comfort. Together, they provide a flexible full-face protection system designed specifically for low- to mid-level threat tactical environments.
